Frequently asked questions

What do you define as ‘Low’ and ‘No’?

0 – 0.5% ABV = ‘No’ Alcohol, you would typically see this as “Alcohol Free” on bottles and cans.

>0.5% – 1.2% ABV = ‘Low’ Alcohol, in line with UK government guidelines for the term “low alcohol”

1.3% – 3% ABV = ‘Lowish’ Alcohol is a term we have coined to guide you to some great drinks which have an ABV which is lower than their more traditional counterparts.

0 – 10Kcal per 100ml = ‘No’ calories, we know 10 isn’t technically “no” but it’s very low!

>10 – 38Kcal per 100ml = ‘Low’ calories, we did a lot of research to define the upper limit and reached a conclusion that approximately 125Kcal per 330ml drink was the comfortable limit across the drink categories we stock.  Once you have selected the low calorie option, you can sort from low to high calories if you wish.

0g – 1g per 100ml = ‘No’ Carbs

>1 – 2.5g per 100ml = ‘Low’ Carbs, again we did extensive research to define the upper limit.  Beer and cider are very different to spirits and wine from a carbs perspective, so we were driven more by what people following a lower carbohydrate diet would expect to see when they look for ‘low carbs’.

We haven’t separated gluten at present, ‘Low & No’ equates to Gluten Free, i.e. 20ppm or less in accordance with UK government guidelines.  In the future, we will look at identifying drinks with 0ppm and isolating them as ‘No Gluten’, however until we can accurately do that, we will keep the Low & No together and align it with the Gluten Free definition.
